What was I saying?

As I age out, I become acutely aware of what I don't know, that what I thought I knew/what I think I know is wrong…having said that, I get a 'feeling' that this thing, cryptocurrency, is a paradigm shift…to go from trading, 'this lamb for that rifle'…to precious metals, 'this nugget for those coins'…to sitting in class, in high school, trying to wrap my head around the idea that 'the dollar is no longer based on the value of gold'…so, what is this paper, what is it worth, and why… now, this rethinking of 'currency' once again…and championed by guys like these two (below)…that in time, long past my time, this will be accepted doctrine…to paraphrase Buzz Lightyear: "To the future, and beyond!"

"After years of inflation, stagflation, and eroding U.S. gold stockpiles, the value of the dollar was officially decoupled from gold in 1976, ending the gold standard. It's unlikely the U.S. would return to the gold standard, given how much the world economy has changed since then." Wikipedia

Something is going on here, but you don't know what it is, do you, Mr. Jones?
