Kaposvár Sunday December 12 Windy
Hi: 3°C/ 37°F Lo: -1°C/ 30°F
Wind: 45kph/ 28mph Gusts: 94kph/ 60mph
As you can see from the photo, our lovely Christmas tree, that sat in the main town square, was blown over today. Snapped at the base. Wind gusts were as strong as I have experienced since arriving in Hungary. And the poor pine that filled up the open area around the cathedral & town hall could not take it. One more indecency we have to endure during this time of plague. I was on my way back from the grocery, passing through the main square to see the Christmas market with its wooden huts selling mulled wine and local handmade trinkets, when I came upon this. Very discouraging. The one blessed take-away: the wind was from the North and the tree fell without hitting any of the wooden huts set up around the square, or the small skating rink, or the stage for the singing of Xmas carols. A small miracle, I guess, if you were looking for the 'bright side' of the situation.
